TheĀ BioBlitz: Nocturnal Biodiversity of the Lehigh Portland Trails event took place on October 5th (after the originally-scheduled September 27th event was rained out). The event was organized by Rachel Stone, Biology Instructor at Allen Community College in Iola, was well-attended, with staff and students from ACC, researchers from Wichita State University, and local families and nature enthusiasts participating.

Blacklights and sugaring stations were set up along the Backbone Trail to attract insects for observation. Many participants uploaded their observations to iNaturalist, with dozens of insects, amphibians, spiders, plants, and other types of life recorded: iNaturalist Project: Nocturnal Biodiversity of the Lehigh Trails 2019.
